Minor repair and restoration takes place in our Seattle workshop. Some jobs are outsourced to our workshop in Turkey. All work is done by hand along with our stain removal service and color run restoration. In faded areas we can also put dye back into the wool to bring the carpets back to life!

Our expert repairers can repair large to small holes, split and worn areas and damage at the ends and sides of your rugs.

Repair Phases of a Rug

It is possible to repair and restore all hand made rugs of any region.

Though regional rugs have different designs and different weaving techniques, (except a few techniques like knots, warps, late passing, wool quality) almost all regional rugs have the same weaving techniques and are restored or repaired the same way.

Mechanical repair or restoration of a hand made rug is not possible.

All regional rugs may be hand repaired or restored by experts who know the procedure well.

Repair phases of an “Antique” Rug

First the wool is dyed to its original colors and made ready before repair.

1-The rug is first laid down on a flat surface in order to check to see how it could be repaired. The missing warps and designs are first checked and then the missing warps are replaced with a needle. The rug is then stretched on a workbench; the weft operation is carried out with the help of a crochet hook, by working at the back side of the rug.

2-The front side of the rug is then stretched on the workbench and the missing designs are spotted and carefully sewed and brought to its final phase.

3-Upon completion of repair, the rug is leveled on both sides to bring it to its original appearance.

The repair of wear and tear may sometimes need several days or months depending on the difficulty of the repair.

We specialize in:

Edge Repair

Over time, rugs can become worn and frayed. Our experienced repair department can hand wrap yarn to the edge of your rug to extend the life of your rug.

End Repair

Stitching applied by hand, which prevents the ends from unraveling, is the most natural way of securing the ends of your rug.

Fringe Repair

We can replace worn out fringe on your rug with new hand-tied fringe or hand sewn ready-made fringe.
